Character Info:
Name: Michiru Kiryuu
Age: Physically appears 14. Actual age is unknown in canon, but my rough estimate would be a year or so.
AU/PG/CANON/OC: Canon (Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash★Star), post episode 44
Key Points:
History:
(Note: You're going to see a lot of mention of Michiru AND her sister Kaoru, this is because they experience their history in tandem and are pretty much never seen without each other. Sorry!)
Michiru starts as a denizen of Dark Fall, a group a villains who attack the Land of Fountains to usurp its power. With her sister, Kaoru, the two of them take over the Fountain of the Sky, and are tasked with watching over it. In one of their patrols, they save two fairies who mistake their unwillingness to waste their time with them as kindness. In overlooking the wasteland, Michiru experiences loneliness for the first time, though she doesn't understand it as such. Though Dark Fall believes they've won, it turns out that the Fountain of the Sun is hidden in the Land of Greenery - or rather, Earth. And the only two fairies with the knowledge of the Fountain of the Sun have fled to Earth to seek out the legendary warriors known as Pretty Cure...
After the demise of the first two denizens, the next denizen, Dorodoron, is called up to the plate - but so are the twins. Michiru and her sister first meet the two Pretty Cure - Saki and Mai - in cryptic fashion, much to Saki and Mai's confusion. Michiru and Kaoru then transfer into their school - and end up being the ones to do the learning, because they don't understand basic concepts like needing to eat food or what compliments are. Michiru and her sister proceed to try to drive the two into breaking up - but they keep questioning their own goals as well. They learn to help others - and they save the Cures because of this, although they claim otherwise. In private, however, the twins begin hoping that their friends never find out about their alliance with Dark Fall.
After Dorodoron's demise, Michiru and her sister fight the Cures, summoning a monster and hiding to avoid being discovered. In the battle, Saki and Mai believe that Michiru and Kaoru are hurt, and demand to know if they're safe. This shocks the twins, who realize how much their friends love them, but the next day, Kaoru is certain that Saki and Mai are planning an attack. Michiru breaks down but is convinced they have no other choice but to fight them. The Power of Friendship wins out, however, and girls decide to see if they can ask for their freedom.
They confront their "father" and ask to live a happy, normal life on Earth - but he flies into a rage, attempting to kill everyone. Michiru and Kaoru sacrifice themselves and seemingly die, but it turns out they're comatose and hidden. For over 20 episodes, they're out of the picture, but by the power of one of the plot items, they're able to be revived.
From that point on, the two rejoin their friends and fight on their side. They're branded as traitors by the other denizens of Dark Fall, and the others try to kill them for it. As of her canonpoint, it's been revealed that if Dark Fall is destroyed, Michiru and her sister will die too...
Personality:
Michiru starts out as the slightly more social twin - she smiles easily and seems more approachable, though this hides the fact she doesn't understand how people work at all. Though she is intelligent - able to memorize a book in record speed! - and athletic - able to pick up a sport after seeing it once! - she doesn't understand basic needs, like eating food, or why someone would compliment someone else. To Michiru, such things are pointless and meaningless, and she doesn't understand why someone could get their feelings hurt by truthful words. She is a little more curious than her sister, finding human customs fascinating and amusing, and is more likely to stick around and see how something works instead of writing it off as a waste of time.
Though Michiru is extremely blunt, and even moreso if she doesn't understand the value of something, she has enough tact to understand when things are bad to talk about - for example, she stops her sister from admitting her dream is to take over the world - though that may just extend to not blowing her cover. In private, Michiru can be rather introspective, especially about friendships and what it means to be really human. Helping people and being kind to them mystifies her, as does the warm and fuzzy feeling she gets from being thanked, but she does it anyways, often without realizing she's doing it.
After returning from her coma, Michiru has softened around the edges a little - she truly cares for her friends and will do anything to protect them, though she's still rather to the point. In addition, although she's forced to fight her former comrades, she doesn't exactly want to, desiring to solve the issue without fighting if she can - but when they start trying to kill her, she gives it as good as she gets it. In a rare moment of understanding others, when she and her sister discover they'll die if they defeat Dark Fall, she tries to hide it from her friends, not wanting them to be concerned for her safety. Deep down, Michiru has always known she'll have to disappear anyways, although her newfound friendship has made her extremely reluctant to want to disappear.
Gem Considerations: Moonstone! Michiru is affiliated with the moon in canon, and gains moonlight based powers in the finale, though she's still wielding darkness based powers as of her current canonpoint. Moonstone is affiliated with discovery and intuition, both things Michiru desperately needs, as she's still not quite sure of how humans work and is basically only reliant on the two friends back home who were willing to handwave the oddities she had. I'd love to see her confront her nonhumanity more, and embark on a journey of self discovery and figure out who she is and what her place really is in the world, since she's really only defined by her sister, her origins, and her friends.
Power considerations:
List Three Powers You Would Like Your Character To Have:
- Healing
- Flight
- Dreamwalking
Michiru in her own canon has enhanced endurance and strength, is capable of hand to hand combat that would put DBZ to shame, is able to fly, and create shields of dark energy, as well as create energy blasts of dark energy as well. (She is also briefly able to communicate telepathically with her sister while they're comatose.) In other words, she's a destructive, offensively based character. She'd definitely feel defenseless (and a little irritated, honestly) when she finds out she can't use any of her old abilities, and confused upon gaining the abilities she DOES get, especially since they're completely out of her depth - well, expect for the flight, anyways. She's the type of person to roll with what she's given though, so even though she'd feel like it doesn't match her, she'd still accept things as they are. A little begrudgingly, but yes.
